I just met someone this weekend who coincidentally went through a similar situation as I did in regards to timeshares. This man, who I will call Steve, was a victim of timeshare resale fraud. The American Resort Development Association has released a new updated website. This site update is intended to provide more informative information and sharing to the timeshare owner community. There are new sections for visitors to learn more about reselling their timeshares as well as news on updated features and offers within the timeshare industry. There will be a new informational brochure for anyone who is looking into buying, selling, renting or exchanging a timeshare unit. The new Publications and Resources section will provide a wealth of free information about the timeshare industry.
The arda.org website has always provided useful and valuable information to the timeshare owner community. This update is simply intended to continue that trend of providing good information to timeshare owners and prospective timeshare consumers. As always the American Resort Development Association encourages timeshare owners to be well informed with these resources in order to prevent scam within the timeshare industry.
One feature of this site update that is missing is information about the many timeshare relief options out there. Many companies have begun providing a guaranteed timeshare exit solution to owners who cannot sell and cannot afford to continue owning their timeshare. In a settlement reached between BlueGreen Corp and the Pennsylvania Attorney General. BlueGreen has said they are satisfied with the settlement as it ended a two-year legal dispute. The case was over seriously misleading offers and incentives. These consumers were promised free gifts and timeshare incentives from BlueGreen Corp. that are often used to market for the sale of timeshares. However, these promises were extremely misleading and in many cases the “valuable prize” that these consumers received required pre purchases or included serious “fine print” statements that prevented them from using the free gift.
Timeshares are often sold solely because they offer so many free gifts just for attending a sales presentation. Often vacationers will get roped into a presentation and end up purchasing a timeshare when they otherwise wouldn’t. These new timeshare owners realize sooner or later what a mistake they made when they purchased the timeshare.
